Reflections on Los Cabos - And Mexico

Sooooo ... we had a chance to experience some truly "once in a lifetime" things during our time in Cabo.  It was amazing to meet Mexican people living in a certified "upscale" area and gain a new perspective on their lifestyle.  We won't have too much more from this side of the border but we'll probably be back for some house-keeping items for a day or two along with some pictures we forgot to share.  We'll probably just add them to the posts we will be putting out there about some really neat places we got to see waaaayyyy North of Cabo.  For now, though, we'll go ahead and show you some of the things we saw in and around the city, along the shoreline and in the resorts. I hope you will have the opportunity to visit this area some day.  When you do, by all means check out the resorts but please, please visit some of the "everyday" places.  I think you will have just as much fun exploring them as seeing the glittering side of Los Cabos. (I highly recommend a trip to Wal-Mart!!!  If you're from the U.S. I think you'll really be surprised!!)

This is the drive leading into one of the very pretty resorts found along the way from Cabo San Lucas to San Jose.

This is a rock formation near the area called "Lover's Beach" on the Sea of Cortez.  We liked it because it looked kinda like the Native American that used to grace our Nickel coin in the U.S.  (OK, well maybe it was those multiple "Bloody Marys" we had that morning on the boat!!!
We met this little fellow in Todos Santos and, being a "guitarista" myself, I felt an instant kinsmanship with an obviously experienced bass player!!

It's funny how something as simple as a doorway can contain artistic elements that make for a picture you've just gotta have.  This one was in Todos Santos.  Hmmmm ...  was this "artistic epiphany" before or after our visit to the Hotel California.

A view of the public beach between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo.  It would be a truly delightful place for a "day at the beach."  Lot's of picnic areas available - plus - they have public "banos."

To the left, the view from the southernmost end of the Grand Solmar.  The crystal clear water signals the point at which the peninsula curves eastward toward the Sea of Cortez.  If you have "mountain goat tendencies" you can climb those rocks to get to "Lover's Beach."

The shot above shows the fabulous homes perched high on the rocky cliffs to the Northwest of Cabo San Lucas.

The picture to the right shows some more of the dramatic architecture found at the  Westin Hotel and Resort on the way to San Jose.

To the left are members of the Fish Moochers Union, Local 291, Cabo San Lucas.  They are discussing whose turn it is to meet the incoming charter fishing boats.   (By the way, one of the locals told me - with the most serious face - "..those are Mexican chickens!)

At "Lovers Beach" on the Sea of Cortez, there is a wide, sandy passageway that leads to another beach on the Pacific Side.  That beach is known as "Divorce Beach."  (?????)  Can't explain that one!!

A view of Neptune's Finger from "Lover's Beach.  If you look at this picture (to the left) and the one above, you get a tiny idea of the landscape.  The tip of the peninsula curves behind the rocks  in both pictures.

Architecture in downtown Cabo San Lucas.  Even modern structures retain a sort of "old worl" flavor.

The young man in the picture to the left swam around the peninsula - from "Divorce Beach" to "Lover's Beach. (See the pics above.) It was  an extraordinarily dangerous feat - one we thought would have been strictly forbidden.  I approached asked if he was training for the Olympics.  He politely but seriously replied that he was required to take the swim as part of his training to be a certified lifeguard in Los Cabos.  Whoa!!!!!

We'll close this post with a reminder that we still have lots and lots of trips to talk about and would really like to have you along as we discuss this incredible, magnificent planet upon which we are privileged to live.  We sure did enjoy having you along for our trip to Ol' Mexico and hope you'll come back again soon.  See ya.
